Jazz-Funk, Fusion & P-Funk Links
The P*Funk Review - I discovered this while surfing for Gill Scott-Heron sites. There are links to artist-specific pages, and you can also sign-up to a mailing list in order to receive soul and p-funk related information.
Jamiroquai's official website - This is an ultra-cool site. It makes very good use of Flash features, but not so much that it takes forever to download. Another big plus is it's discussion board, which is both a thriving community and a wealth of information. It's not all "I love Jamiroquai" postings, thankfully.
Gill Scott-Heron fan site - This is a fan's site dedicated to Gill Scott-Heron. (Personal Page)
Chat & Smooth Jazz - Jaxx fans will love to stop over at this site. Aside from information on particular jazz greats, you can post messages on the board, chat with other fans AND download music. This is a real all-in-one site.
ContemporaryJazz.com - News, Album reviews, Release dates, Interviews and more. You can also sign-up to a mailing list thru' this site.l liked this site a lot.
Jazz Piano Online - This is dedicated to jazz piano: an extensive catalogue of famous pianists, types of pianos, and links.
JazzCountry - Concert Reviews, Links to sites from where you can listen to jazz musiz live on the 'net, Festival Listings, Who's in the Studion and who's just come out with an album.... it's all here.
Ear-Scorching Fusion - This is a site by a fusion fan called Scott (sorry, that's all I know). He catalogues his favourite fusion artistes of all time, and has a more extensive fusion link-list that I can probably duplicate on this page (or, may be for a while yet).
Fusemag.com - This is an online magazine decicated to fusion, "the world's leading fusion web site" (you'll have to discover the truth in this yourself). I discovered this courtesy of Scott's (above) page.
Jazz/Fusion Artsiste Index - A catalogue of jazz-fusion artistes.
Sinclair's Cool Jazz Sites - You can search for jazz-fusion artistes by the instrument they play. You can also read more about who Sinclair is.
MoleA German record label's site. The music featured on the site ranges from acid-jazz through house and hip-hop to jungle (who said jungle was dead?> and trip-hop.
Artistes
Rashaan Peterson - Rashaan Peterson's Official (I believe) web site. If you haven't heard ANYTHING by Rashaan, all I can say is where have you been? Find out more about the artiste and his music.
Jill Scott - My girl! Ahem... OK, so I don't know her personally, but with the frequency with which I've rocked her debut album "Who is Jill Scott?", and the intensity with which I've pored over her lyrics, I feel like I damned well do. If you haven't heard of her (can this be possible......) pu-lsease check out her album.
Erykah Badu - "Mama's Gun" is a fantastic album, and an excellent follow-up to "Baduizm". It's turned me into a confirmed fan of Miss Badu's talents, and this is after not really liking Baduizm.....
Musiq Soulchild - This is turning out to be a catalogue of my most recently purchased albums. No matter! It means that I've checked out these albums personally, and that these artiste are among my favourites. If you want some soul music that sounds different from the "typical, ordinary, run-of-the-mill, garden-variety" (his words, not mine!) R'n'B pumping out of every other radio station these days, then seek out "Aijuswananaseing" (I Just Want to Sing) by Musiq Soulchild. This debut effort represents a giant leap from the banal cuts we've become accustomed to hearing now, and is one of the most innovative albums I've had the pleasure of listening to in a while. This album can't be described purely as a return to old-school soul; that would be too simplistic. Though hallmarks of old-school such as beat-boxing is featured on this album, the influences of hip-hop are very clear here.
Fela Anikulapo-Kuti
Femi Kuti - Femi Kuti. One of the premiere voices in afro-beat in Nigeria, and the world over. Also, the son of the legendary Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.
